El Tango Taqueria
14224 Madison Ave., Lakewood
Cleveland, OH
My very favorite Mexican/SouthWestern style taqueria is now the new El Tango Taqueria. Four, count 'em, four great salsas to chose from. The guy grinds his own chiles that he brings from New Mexico and makes his own tasty corn tortillas. The chicken is marinated dude and excellent (chile de arbol -- pshaw that rocks OUT!). The beans are the best, spiced with cumin, allspice and, dig it, ginger! Now we goin' island stylee! Also, they usually feature specials from other hispanic countries on a regular basis. Here you are now dude, on the westside ... and you're good.

Talitas
North High Street
Columbus, OH
Although many "chain" taquerias have popped up in Columbus, the best one is still owned by a family that has successfully run the place for at least 25 years. It is called Talitas and is on North High Street (about 5 blocks north of OSU) in Columbus. The food is fresh, tasty, properly composed and constructed (I am a very well-traveled burrito eater)and very abundant. The employees have worked there for years and it is like a big family when you go there. The cheesy art adds to the relaxed atmosphere and good eating. But if you are looking for pescado swiming in mescal sauce or other such dubious gormet fare, you will not find it here.

Mi Pueblo Taqueria
Lorain Rd. @ 122nd St.
Cleveland, OH
When in Cleveland, why not join the blue-collar crowd in the Hispanic West Side at Mi Pueblo Taqueria for the best breakfast burritos in the world before you head to work at the factory? Wash down a steak & egg with some fresh juice or a fruit shake. Throw a couple carnitas tacos in the lunch bucket for later. It's on Lorain Rd. @ 122nd Street.
