Dick's Drive Inn
184 Main Street
Rochester, IN
I reside in Rochester, a small town (population 7,000) situated in burrito-free Northern Indiana. Here in the heartland, it's pretty tough to excape the meat & potatoes crowd and the all-u-can-eat buffet offerings. Right here in downtown Rochester (184 Main Street), however, sits my personal Burrito Haven: Dick's Drive Inn. No cilantro, no carne asada, no guacamole. In fact, Dick's doesn't offer many of the traditional burrito contents you might have seen in your worldly burrito travels. Actually, I might point out that they buy one grade of "hot sauce." They then add varying degrees of ketchup to make up their mild, medium and hot sauces. If you want the straight up sauce - ask for "extra hot." The meat is fresh from the local farm community and is just straight up "ground beef" aka "hamburger." All in all, however, the place makes a damn good burrito. If you stop by, I recommend an extra hot burrito, hold the meat. This will leave you with an incredible package of aluminum foil filled with a flour shell, refried beans, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese (straight up American - suitable for a cheeseburger) and hot sause sans ketchup. I also recommend a side order of chips (they run 'em through the fryer along with their french fries fresh upon your order) with plenty of exta hot sauce. Also if you let me know, I'll be happy to buy you this excellent All-American burrito offering when you pass through. We can dine-in (they have 4 booths inside) or drive-in (they have a great curb service offering). One more note: please adjust your schedule - Dick's Drive Inn is only serving up these luscious gems during the months of June, July and August. After that, the legendary Burrito Haven is all boarded up until the next year.

Los Amigos
State Road 3 and Indiana Avenue
New Castle, IN
My favorite place to go for a burrito is Los Amigos in New Castle, Indiana. It is the best, spiciest joint around. All the men who work their are Mexican and usually can't understand what we're saying, but they're the best cooks and waiters to come our way. They're always polite and courteous and love to talk to our kids. The burritos at Los Amigos are the best around. We used to go to Chi Chi's all the time but when we discovered this place we realized that Chi Chi's definetely does not know how to cook authentic Mexican food. Los Amigos is located in New Castle, Indiana on State Road 3 and Indiana Avenue in the Kroger Plaza.
